So, who exactly is Lionel Messi? Before becoming one of the greatest athletes in the world, he was just a kid who loved playing soccer with his brothers and friends. He was born in 1987 and grew up in Rosario, Argentina.

As a child, Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency (GHD). This is a rare condition where the body doesn’t produce enough growth hormone. It can lead to delays in development and symptoms like fatigue. Often, people with GHD are shorter than average and struggle to build muscle.

Messi started receiving treatment for GHD, but it quickly became very expensive. At the age of 13, his skills on the soccer field caught the attention of La Masia, the youth academy of Football Club (FC) Barcelona. As part of their offer, Messi’s GHD treatments would also be covered by the team.

The Messi family moved to Spain, where the young athlete quickly made a name for himself. He played his first official match for FC Barcelona’s first team in 2004 when he was just 17 years old. By 2008, he was the team’s star player.

Today, many consider Messi to be the best football player in the world. He has won the Ballon d’Or award from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) six times. He is also the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League and won FIFA’s The Best award in 2019.

Currently, Messi continues to play for FC Barcelona. Off the field, he is a husband and father of three. In 2007, he also established the Leo Messi Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports programs providing education, clean water, and healthcare to children worldwide.
